Staying Focused, Living Life
This is a blog about life in general. Just reflections that I have. I may throw in a few poems and pictures from time to time........I hope people who visit my blog will enjoy it and if not, let me know what I can change...in a constructive way, foul and offensive language will be deleted with the quickness. As will anything that is racist, sexist, etc. This is not the place for it. Take it elsewhere.

Well, this week I started my graduate program. I started it a few days late due to being under the weather, but I managed to submit my assignments that were due yesterday and today. I have two due on Sunday that I have to submit and that will be my first week in the can. I am so excited and thankful to God for this opportunity. It was a long time coming. I hope to use this as a springboard to help victims of domestic violence.
As a survivor of domestic violence, I feel it's very important to give back. I find that some people are lacking the resources they need to get out of their situations and once they do get out, they need help to get back on their feet.
In light of the recent tragedy that happened with a player from the Kansas City Chiefs, and others like it that don't get the attention, it is very important that we have stronger laws regarding the safety and protection of the abuse as well as prosecution of the abusers. This affects people from all walks of life. It knows no color, race, socio-economic status, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc. It affects everyone. There is still a stigma attached to it. Those who are being abused are afraid to sometimes come forward for fear of being rejected, told it will all work itself out or fear of the abuser. This must stop! We must take a stand.
More on this subject later. Have a blessed one! Remember, God loves you and only wants the best for you! He created for you for more than you could have ever imagined. Don't limit God!
Peace any Blessings!

Good Morning!
Glad to among the land of the living this morning. I give all glory, honor and praise to God today! I pray to be a vessel for Him to use to help other people and to make this world a better place.
I really have to be more diligent about posting on my blog. Being that I will start my Masters Program in Human Services in a few weeks, which I am super excited about, I will need to start writing more. So, with that being said, I hope to get on here everyday to offer my observations about life in general and anything else that is going on in the world. I will offer my opinions on various subjects. And they are just that, my opinions. We are all entitled to them. Do know this, they will not include and sexist or racist rants. I love all people no matter what race, creed, color, religion or sexual orientation they happen to be. I wasn't raised that way and I have not raised my children that way. I will, however, delete any comments and posts that lean that way. I will not tolerate it! Go elsewhere with that. Just remember, that very same group of people you hate because of the color of their skin, their religion, sexual orientation, etc., may be the same person that may have to save your life one day or that you will need help from. Keep that in mind! I just never understood how you can hate someone you never met or has never done anything to you. That makes absolutely no sense to me.
Today, I'd like to thank all the veterans who proudly served our country to allow us to keep the freedoms we all enjoy, and yes, one of those freedoms is freedom of speech. It's in the constitution. They have sacrificed for us. Some paid the ultimate sacrifice and for that, I salute you!
The second shout-out I want to give today, is to my Sorors of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated! Today, we celebrate 90 years of, "Greater Service, Greater Progress". For those of you who don't know we are the youngest of the four Divine Nine Sororities. That means, we are the babies of the historically black Sororities. We have members from all races, religions and backgrounds. Founded on the campus of Butler University on November 12, 1922 by seven educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Cubena McClure, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford and Bessie Downey Martin, they were trailblazers. The reason I say this is due to the fact that across the street from the school were the headquarters of the Klu Klux Klan. Membership in the Klan was at it's highest during this period. They chose to start an organization for black women in the midst of all of this. It is an organization committed to community service and to help better the world in which we live. That is just a synopsis! For more information, please visit www.sgrho1922.org.
I'd also like to give a shout-out to the newest members of the Kappa chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Congratulations to Sorors, Serita Durant, Yvette Belt and Sherry Jones! Welcome to Iotaland! I hope your ready to WORK! Iota Phi Lambda is a business and professional sorority that was founded on June 1, 1929 by Lola Mercedes Parker, Ethel T. Edwards, Mildred G. Hardin, Harriet M. Robinson, Ophelia Harrison, Burdette Trigg and Marjorie Tydall. For more information, please visit www.iota1929.org.
That's it, for now. I may post my thoughts on the recent presidential election.
Until then,
Be Blessed

God is AWESOME
Today, I came home to a wonderful surprise. My oldest son is registered for college! He is now a college student. Praise be to God. This has been a long time coming! You just don't understand. After some struggles, going in and out of school, and other issues, he finally finished high school with his high school diploma and now he is going to college. God is all up and through this! After a lot of blood, sweat, tears, hollering, threatening, and PRAYING, LOTS OF IT, this day has finally come! I have to admit, there were times when I didn't think it was going to happen. There were days when I wanted to give up and throw in the towel. But, I couldn't because I didn't want him to give up on himself. So, I prayed and I kept on him, and kept on him. I know I was getting on his nerves, but I didn't care. I just kept on him and kept him on the altar. I knew that God would move in a mighty way! And, yes he did! It's so amazing what God can do if we let him! Yes, we must give it to God and let it go. He will work it out. I'm a living witness to that. I am just so grateful and thankful to God right now that this day is here!
The key to this is: Never give up on yourself because God won't give up on you! He has equipped us with the tools to be successful. We just have to remain faithful and stay focused. If He has placed something in your heart and it just won't go and it's of God, then He will give put you in the places you need to be and around the people you need to be around to get you where HE wants you to be. So, don't give you on yourself! Because God will not and has not given up on you!
Peace and Blessings,

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff
There comes a time when we have to learn how not to sweat the small stuff. Instead of complaining about how things aren't, think about what things were or could have been. Look back at your life and see how blessed you are to be where you are today. Many of us are lucky to even be here to complain. Sometimes, we need to take a step back and reflect on what it is we are really complaining about. Most of the time, it's just not worth it.
For instance, we can complain about how are children won't keep their room clean exactly the way we would like. As long as it's not totally filthy with food particles and such on the bed and floors and the room is relatively clean, what's the big fuss? Seriously, when you thing about the people who have lost their children for whatever reason, you can imagine how they would love to have their child be around to have a dirty room. How about your job? You can complain about how hard they work you for little pay and just pile more work on you and don't appreciate you. Well, think about all the people who have lost their jobs and are still looking. Be thankful you even have a job in this economy. If you don't like where you are, change it. If you need more skills, work on getting more skills. If your job is really that bad, look for another one, but don't complain about it.
Last year, I spent most of the summer in and out of the hospital. From having emergency surgery, an infection, a blood clot, falling. I have realized that it's just not worth it to complain about things that just aren't that important.
Life is too short to worry about the little stuff. Just enjoy what you have and where you are now.
Peace and Blessings!

Great to be back
It's been awhile since I've posted on this blog. Life happens. I have dedicated myself to at least trying to post three times a week and working up to everyday. There are a lot of things on my mind I'd like to voice my opinion about. And it's just that, my opinion. If you agree, fine. If you don't that's fine too. We can agree to disagree, but we must be respectful of other peoples opinions. We must learn to respectfully disagree and not resort to name-calling or other things becoming of people who are supposed to be adults.
With that said, last summer was a long one. I spent most of it in and out of the hospital. Totally, I was in the hospital six times from July to September. But, I'm here and I thank God for that. Things could have been much worse, but He saw me through! I am so eternally grateful to God for bringing me and my children through.
I have a lot on my mind that I want to say and share with people. Not really personal stuff, but just life stuff. It is my hope to get people to think, learn and grow. If what I post can help someone, that is even better. That is what I really want to do. Help people to realize their potential and to learn to think. There is alot going on in this world, particularly in this country and a lot of it is really ugly.
Well, that is all for tonight. I have to go to work tomorrow. So, I hope you stay tuned to my blog. I hope you can get something out of it. I'm going to try not to rant endlessly. That is not my goal. As I said, I want to inspire, help and get the thought processes going. I hope you will hand in there with me!
Peace and blessings to you and your families!

Thankful
Now that we are in the holiday season, and about to begin a new year, I start to ponder if I used the year that is going out productively. While, I didn't accomplish all that I would have liked to, and that was due to procrastination on my part, I realize I did get a few things accomplished. I am thankful that I am employed, my children and I have our health, we have a roof over our heads and food on the table. The basic necessities. I am thankful that the reason for the holiday, Christmas, is CHRIST! I think that gets lost in all the Black Friday sales and hype. That is not Christmas is all about. It's about love, giving, sharing and caring about the well-being of your fellow man. It is a celebration of life. It's about the most awesome gift that was given to mankind: CHRIST! If folks weren't so hyped about what they can get cheap on Black Friday, and focused more on the CHRIST in Christmas, they wouldn't suffer from the "holiday stress" the news speaks so much of this time of year. Remember, Jesus is the reason for the season.

From the Mouth of Babes
My 13 year-old son came in my room this morning and said to me"Why can't the Democrats and Republicans just work together? That's what our founding fathers did."
Out of the mouth of a child. Now that the mid-term elections are over and the Republicans have regained seats in the House of Representatives, they are saying things are going to be different. How? What changes are going to be made? Are you truly going to be an agent for the betterment of this country or are you going to continue to fight tooth and nail to unravel all that has been done not only in the last two years, but decades?
Why can't the Democrats and Republicans just work together with one common goal in mind? Why must there be a continuous parade of mudslinging and blame hurled back and forth? I think once some people get in office, they forget, it's not about them, it's about this country and all it was founded on and what it stood for. We lost that a long time ago. Many politicians on both side of the aisle are only worried about what they can get out of it and making a name for themselves. They only care about where it is taking them, not where it is taking this country. And right now, that appears to be a a dark path of destruction. Yes, I said it. If the politicians and the American people don't wake up and realize what is happening and work together for the good of all the citizens of this country, we will fall from the inside and we won't have anyone to blame but ourselves.
United we stand divided we fall.
